Preventive Care in Campsie
Preventive care is one of the main aspects of our services at Campsie Street Dental. Many oral health issues can be prevented by good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, which is why we’re passionate about helping you understand good hygiene techniques and providing routine check-ups and cleans.
Keeping up with your scheduled visits to our clinic may give our dentists the chance to spot early warning signs of oral health problems. In some cases, this can mean addressing them before they develop into something severe. During your visit, we can also clean and scale your teeth, give you tips on oral hygiene techniques, and recommend any preventive treatments that could benefit you or your family.

Dental check-ups and exams
When you visit our clinic for your regular check-up, we can give you a comprehensive oral health assessment of your teeth, gums and mouth and identify early signs of problems.
If we do spot symptoms of a possible problem or think you could benefit from a preventive treatment, we can discuss this with you so you can decide what’s right for you. If you decide to go through with a treatment, we can draw up your personalised treatment plan.
Your oral health assessment may involve the use of x-rays or other imaging systems if we need to obtain a more detailed information about your mouth. If you’re visiting us for the first time, we’ll ask you to complete a dental and medical history form to help our dentists diagnose your oral problems and plan your treatments more effectively.
We recommend having a complete oral health assessment regularly so that if a problem does develop, our dentists will have a better chance of identifying it early when it can be better managed. If you have an ongoing oral health or orthodontic issue, we may recommend more frequent visits so we can monitor your progress.
Brushing and flossing your teeth help to remove most plaque from their surfaces, but any that remains can harden into calculus (tartar) which can be difficult to remove and increase your risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease. That’s why we recommend having a scale and clean treatment during your routine check-up.
Our dentists can remove plaque and tartar from your teeth using advanced instruments such as the ultrasonic devices. They can also apply a fluoride treatment to your teeth to help protect them against further plaque deposition.
Playing sport isn’t just a great way to have fun, it can also be a fantastic way to maintain fitness. However, playing contact sports like rugby can put your teeth at risk of injury, such as if you or your child get hit by a ball, collide with other players or have a fall. That’s why organisations such as the Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommend wearing a custom-fitted mouthguard for protection when playing any contact sport.
Our dentists can take an impression of your teeth or your child’s teeth to help create a custom-fit mouthguard. This can offer better protection for your teeth, tongue and other parts of your mouth compared to a poorly-fitting mouthguard or no mouthguard at all. And a proper fit can mean it’s easier to breathe and speak, too.
